Back during the Hot Chocolate Fest Melissa and I headed over to the Athletes Village and decided to grab some savory eats at Tap and Barrel before sweets. They have put a few new items on the menu since either of us were here last so Melissa decided to go with one of them, the Santa Fe Chicken Tacos. The tacos have a red mole on the chicken, guacamole, salsa, slaw, corn and drizzled with a spicy yogurt sauce on corn tortillas. I didn’t taste the tacos but Melissa said that all the flavors were well balanced and the yogurt sauce added tang.
I decided to get brunch so I went with the Kits Beach Eggs Benny with tomato, avocado, cream cheese, sprouts bathed in hollandaise sauce with some tater tots on the side and fruit. The dish was nicely presented and the portion size worked for me. The eggs and hollandaise sauce all ticked the right boxes when it comes to how I like me eggs benny but I thought I would like the cream cheese more than I did and the tang it left stood out a bit too much.
Overall brunch at Tap and Barrel hit the spot for the both of us even though I didn’t like one of the main ingredients in my eggs benny, our food came out quickly and the service was friendly and efficient. The new menu items sound great and I’ll totally be back for more.
